While quarantine might make everyone appreciate the next time they’re outside, why don’t you treat this lockdown as an opportunity? Perhaps it could be an opportunity to learn a new language, master yoga or become a Michelin star chef. All you need are the resources and more importantly access to them: both of which SEI will happily provide (at least in terms of technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation!). This week we will be showcasing both the app and the wonderful courses available on Tinkercad.

What is Tinkercad

Tinkercad is a free online collection of software tools that helps people all over the world think, create and make. It is considered the ideal introduction to Autodesk, the leader in 3D design, engineering and entertainment software. Simply by using their free, easy-to-use app, you can begin learning about 3D design, electronics, and coding. All you need is a device that can connect to the internet. The app is aimed at all ages and levels: be it kids, teachers or designers.

From ideation to creation

Tinkercad will support you throughout the entire process. The app is user-friendly and will simplify while also explaining complicated concepts. You could start by learning how to design a 3D model before moving on to understanding how to print it with a 3D printer or even how to laser cut it.

Then, you might want to build on your idea further by adding electronic circuits that emit light or cause movement. Tinkercad will help with the design, programming, and testing of your virtual circuits before you make them a reality.

There are even options to design 3D objects using code. Thanks to Tinkercad’s intuitive interface, you are able to stack, move and order blocks of code so that as the code runs, you can watch your creation come to life.

Don’t tinker alone, tinker together

Tinkercad has an outstanding blog that caters to the needs of every user, irrespective of their ability or age. The various sections: inspiration, new to Tinkercad, teachers & parents, features and tips & tricks provide a rich resource that is constantly updated. If you ever get stuck, someone will be there to help! Just remember all of this content is freely accessible from the comfort of your own home. If you need any more convincing, check out the
