Explorer Demo Day 2019: the winner is IPM, the startup that improves public transport.

35 university students, 10 early-stage innovative startups and 3 months of internship: these are the pillars of Explorer. The goal of our program? To stimulate and guide the entrepreneurial vocation of bachelors students.

Explorer: an out of the ordinary internship

The Explorers started their journey 3 months ago. They have a specific aim: to actively join an Italian startup and to help its team to develop an effective business plan. In short, this program has nothing to do with traditional university internships.

During these months, students have attended more than 200 hours of training, bootcamps and mentoring. They have also followed 3 workshops on business plans and effective presentation. But in this adventure they have never been alone: a team of 10 experts and entrepreneurs guided them, day by day, to the finish line: the Demo Day.

Explorer Demo Day 2019

The Explorer Demo Day is a celebration, but it is also a stepping stone. You know: experimenting in a “controlled environment” is the best way to learn how to “navigate” on your own.

Each team presented their business plan in front of a jury of experts: Andrea Griva (Vice-chairman of SEI), Pietro Puglisi (Founder of Claris Ventures), Federico Sandrone (Vice-president of the Young Entrepreneurs Group) and Stefania Boschetti ( Partner EY).

The event, which saw the participation of mentors, partners and friends, was a success: all the teams did their best, showing maturity, but above all, great passion. As in any competition, however, there is only one winner and his name is IPM.

The teams on the podium

IPM team has developed a system to make public transport more efficient, facilitating ticket checking and, at the same time, reducing CO2 emissions. Still on the podium, with a dead head, we find Wiseair, a startup that fights air pollution and Qtool, which instead uses 3D printing to optimize the production processes of objects.

What are the strengths of Explorer? Students have no doubts: interdisciplinarity and action learning. The program offers the opportunity to collaborate with students from very different university backgrounds. In fact, 4 Institutions have chosen to take part in our program: the Polytechnic and the University of Turin, the IAAD and the Bocconi University of Milan.

Now that the program is over and that diplomas have been delivered, a world of possibilities opens up for our Explorers and we can only wish them a fantastic journey.
